The payment method in social health insurance is an important tool for regulating health providers’ behavior , as well as to control cost and promote efficiency. It is also a key area for comprehensive healthcare system reform. Since the new healthcare reform in 2009, the central and local government have been paying more attention to payment reform. Various pilots have been established in China including capitation, bundle payment and global payment. Scholars have evaluated the effectiveness of these pilot studies. We summarize and analyze the existing literature to provide lessons learned and policy implications for the next step of payment reform.
